Governor Steps In After Granny’s Desperate Attempt to Pay Fees with Chickens

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has stepped in to help a grandmother who warmed people’s hearts by offering six chickens to clear school fees for her two children.

The two students had been sent home to clear a fee arrears of Ksh131,920.

The grandmother, Consolata Oduya, unable to clear the balance, offered to reduce the amount by offering six chickens, estimated at Ksh100 each.

Following the incident, the photos of the grandmother alongside her grandchildren went viral across all social media platforms, causing mixed reactions among Kenyans.

Among those who were touched by the story was Governor Gladys Wanga.

In a brief statement, the governor revealed that she had learnt about the incident on social media and stated that she had already intervened and he the form three and four students.

She added that she visited the family and school and committed to clearing the remaining balance of Ksh 81,920 following an additional 50,000 from a well-wisher.

She further revealed that the learners were enrolled in Homa Bay County’s scholarship programme and would support them up to college.
