Governor Abdi Guyo Survives Impeachment

Governor Abdi Ibrahim Hassan Guyo has survived an impeachment after the Senate ruled that the Isiolo County Assembly did not follow proper procedure during its sittings.

While announcing the decision on Tuesday, July 8, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi noted that the impeachment motion against Guyo was procedurally flawed.

Following the announcement, the county boss welcomed the Senate’s decision, calling it a victory for truth, justice, and the people of Isiolo.

“The Senate has today reaffirmed what we have consistently maintained: that the purported impeachment was procedurally flawed, legally unsound, and entirely without merit. This resolution is not only a personal vindication but a powerful statement in defence of truth, justice, and the sovereign will of the people of Isiolo,” he noted.

Governor Guyo further called for unity and a renewed focus on development in Isiolo.

On June 26, Guyo was impeached after a decisive vote in the Isiolo County Assembly, where 16 out of 18 MCAs supported the motion to oust him.

They accused the governor of gross violations of the Constitution and various laws governing county administration.

The charges include claims that Guyo has failed to fulfill a key constitutional requirement by not delivering the annual State of the County address since assuming office.

He was also accused of overstaffing and unlawful appointments within the governor’s office.

Another charge concerns the allegation of bypassing the County Public Service Board in establishing key positions and ignoring directives on public debt management.
