Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has called on musicians from the Mount Kenya region to compose songs highlighting what he described as President William Ruto’s alleged persecution of the community.
Speaking on Thursday, July 23, during a requiem mass for two victims of the Ol Kalou skirmishes, Gachagua said the songs should capture the community’s experiences and convey what he believes residents should do in the 2027 General Election.
The former Deputy President argued that music has historically been a powerful way for the Mount Kenya community to express its frustrations during difficult political moments.

He urged artists to use their platforms to communicate the region’s concerns and rally residents ahead of next year’s polls.
Gachagua also appealed to residents to avoid engaging in political confrontations or responding to provocation.
Instead, he encouraged them to focus on their daily activities while preparing for the 2027 elections through peaceful and democratic means.
According to the DCP leader, members of the community should refrain from taking to the streets and channel their frustrations through music and the ballot.
He further maintained that the Democracy for the Citizens Party is the preferred political vehicle for the region ahead of the next General Election.
Gachagua described the 2027 polls as one of the most significant elections for the Mount Kenya region since the return of multiparty democracy in 1992, expressing confidence that voters would use the ballot to make a decisive political statement.
