Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed details of his meeting with former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, saying he gained political insights from the veteran politician on building a winning opposition alliance.
In an update on Tuesday, November 3, Gachagua said he hosted Ngilu at his Wamunyoro residence, where they discussed the formation and success of the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC), which ended KANU’s long rule in 2002.
Gachagua described Ngilu as one of the key architects of the NARC movement, alongside former President Mwai Kibaki and the late Vice President Kijana Wamalwa.

The DCP leader noted that Ngilu shared lessons on the political strategies used to build and implement the coalition, as well as approaches to addressing corruption and impunity in the country.
The former Deputy President went on to state that the discussions had strengthened his understanding of political coalition-building and given him fresh insights into the country’s political future.
Gachagua further suggested that Kenya was approaching a political moment similar to the 2002 elections, expressing confidence that the opposition would unite behind a single presidential candidate.
He said the opposition intended to identify one candidate capable of securing a decisive victory in the next presidential election.
