Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is in possession of crucial evidence linked to the murder of Rev Julius Ndumia.
Speaking on Monday, May 11, during the cleric’s funeral service, Gachagua alleged that detectives had obtained CCTV footage capturing events surrounding the killing.
According to the former Deputy President, the individuals believed to have carried out the murder reportedly stayed at the PCEA Tabuga Church in Nakuru for about three hours before the incident.

Gachagua called on the DCI to make the footage public, arguing that releasing the clip could help members of the public, including church congregants and local residents, identify the suspects and assist with investigations.
He further claimed that the footage captured activities between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., insisting that authorities should allow the family and the public to view the recordings as investigations continue.
Gachagua highlighted doubt on the culpability of two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Rev Julius Ndumia, suggesting they may not be the actual perpetrators.
He argued that the two individuals could be innocent and were only implicated after being found in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone, which he claimed may have been discarded by the real attackers after the incident.
Gachagua also questioned what he termed as silence from government security agencies over the killing, saying senior officials had not publicly addressed the matter despite its severity.
He maintained that the focus of investigations should be on identifying the real killers rather than relying solely on the arrest of the two suspects currently in custody.
The DCP Party leader urged security agencies to expedite investigations into the killing of Rev Julius Ndumia, saying the incident has left clergy members fearful and exposed.
He called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the Inspector General of Police to ensure justice is served, and also urged President William Samoei Ruto to guarantee the safety of religious leaders.
Gachagua maintained that financial support to the bereaved family is insufficient without accountability for the murder.
