Gachagua Dismisses Rumours of Cleophas Malala Quitting DCP

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims circulating on social media that Cleophas Malala has defected from the Democracy For The Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking over the weekend, Gachagua explained that Malala had requested time off from party duties after falling ill shortly after hosting the Malala Super Cup tournament in December.

He clarified that Malala’s absence from public engagements was purely for medical recovery and not linked to any political move.

Gachagua also accused allies of President Ruto of deliberately spreading false information about Malala, saying the rumours were politically motivated and aimed at causing confusion within the party.

Gachagua also dismissed claims that some of his allies were defecting from the DCP to join President Ruto’s camp, saying those leaving were individuals who had been acting as moles and were simply returning to where they truly belonged.

He maintained that the party remains strong and intact, insisting that none of his genuine allies are crossing over to other political camps.

The former Deputy President said his team had long identified individuals he claims were planted as spies, adding that their departure was expected.

He further revealed plans to systematically remove all politicians within his camp whom he accuses of working for President Ruto, saying he had already begun the process.

Gachagua’s remarks follow online claims that Malala had defected to Ruto’s camp.

Malala was last seen publicly on December 31, 2025, during the Malala Super Cup finals in Kakamega County and was absent from a recent Coast retreat hosted by Gachagua.

Malala joined Gachagua’s camp in 2024 after being removed as UDA Secretary General and was later appointed Interim Deputy Party Leader of DCP in May 2025.
