Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has weighed in on when the united opposition should unveil its candidate to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking on Saturday evening, January 3, Gachagua highlighted that the opposition should not rush to name its flag bearer.
He stated that announcing a candidate too early could expose the individual to harassment or prosecution by the government.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader proposed that the opposition should instead unveil its presidential candidate in December this year or January next year.
According to Gachagua, the principals in the united opposition will consult and agree on a single candidate to face President Ruto in the 2027 General Election, noting that several leaders have already expressed interest in the race.
His remarks come days after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced that the opposition plans to unveil its presidential candidate in the first quarter of 2026.
Kalonzo noted that the opposition leadership is committed to maintaining unity and working together toward a common goal.
He added that once consensus is reached on the flag bearer, the opposition will embark on a nationwide campaign to popularize the candidate ahead of the 2027 polls.
