Gachagua Claims Ruto Plans New Parties to Weaken Mount Kenya Voting Bloc

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has urged Mount Kenya residents to remain vigilant against leaders whom he claimed are publicly opposing President William Ruto while secretly working with him.

Speaking on Friday, July 17, Gachagua alleged that President Ruto was planning to use such leaders to divide the Mount Kenya voting bloc ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the former Deputy President, the alleged strategy includes backing multiple presidential candidates from the region in an effort to prevent Mount Kenya voters from rallying behind a single candidate.

Gachagua further claimed that the President was planning to introduce new political parties in the region to provide alternative platforms for his allies, arguing that some leaders believe they may struggle to retain their seats if they contest under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

He said the DCP would expose any leaders or political outfits that it believes are part of the alleged plan, specifically claiming that one such political vehicle was being prepared in Murang’a County.

The former Deputy President also argued that the outcome of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election demonstrated declining support for UDA in the Mount Kenya region, describing the result as a significant political statement by voters.

Gachagua said DCP intends to ensure the region heads into the 2027 General Election under a united political outfit, unlike in previous elections.

He added that the party plans to field candidates for all elective positions in the next General Election and is targeting at least half of the seats in the National Assembly.
