Gachagua Claims He Advised Kang’ata to Skip Ol Kalou Visit

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that he privately warned Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata against travelling to Ol Kalou on Sunday, July 12.

Speaking on the matter, Gachagua said he instructed Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu to contact Kang’ata and relay his concerns before the event.

According to Gachagua, he deliberately stayed away from Ol Kalou because he was aware of an alleged plan that could have led to violence or political chaos.

He further claimed that he advised Kang’ata to cancel his visit, arguing that those behind the alleged scheme intended to exploit his presence.

Gachagua maintained that despite the warning, the governor proceeded with the trip, prompting him to raise the issue publicly.

The former deputy president also linked the events in Ol Kalou to attacks reported during Linda Mwananchi activities in Kisumu, suggesting they were part of a broader pattern.

Additionally, Gachagua dismissed claims that his political camp is at odds with the Linda Mwananchi movement.

He maintained that he has consistently encouraged his supporters to cooperate with leaders associated with the movement, citing a previous political event in Thika where he urged his supporters to work alongside them.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that one person was killed and several others injured during violent clashes at Linda Mwananchi events in Kisumu and Nyahururu on Sunday.

NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga condemned the violence, saying it undermined public order and threatened national cohesion.

According to the police, clashes between rival groups in Kisumu left one person dead, several others injured, nine motorcycles torched and a police vehicle damaged.

Eight suspects were arrested, while detectives continue to pursue other individuals linked to the incident.

In Nyahururu, another group allegedly disrupted a political rally by pelting stones at attendees, leaving several people with minor injuries, including Joseph Gitau, who was treated and discharged. Police arrested six suspects in connection with the incident.
