Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is facing mistreatment within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday, July 26, Gachagua noted that he understands Kindiki’s situation because he experienced similar treatment before he was removed from office as Deputy President.
According to Gachagua, President William Ruto’s allies are allegedly provoking Kindiki in an attempt to pressure him into resigning from his position.

He further accused the Head of State of orchestrating the alleged mistreatment.
The former DP linked his claims to recent remarks by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, who suggested that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would produce President Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 General Election under a coalition with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
He questioned why Junet would publicly discuss ODM taking the deputy president’s slot while Kindiki is still serving in the office, arguing that the remarks amounted to disrespect similar to what he says he faced before leaving office.
Gachagua maintained that Kindiki was being sidelined despite still holding the Deputy President’s position and urged leaders to stop targeting him, describing him as one of the Mount Kenya region’s own.
The remarks come just days after Gachagua unexpectedly backed Kindiki’s call for unity in the Mount Kenya region.
Speaking on Monday, July 20, Gachagua said Kindiki was correct in urging residents to remain united, arguing that divisions within the region would only benefit President Ruto’s re-election bid.
He also appealed to residents of the Mount Kenya region to ease their criticism of Kindiki, saying he should not be treated harshly because he belongs to the community.
