Fuliza Users Alerted to Service Interruption During Safaricom Upgrade

Safaricom has alerted customers to planned system maintenance that will temporarily affect its Fuliza overdraft service.

The telco said the upgrade will take place in the early hours of Monday, November 17.

Safaricom noted that the exercise is intended to improve the platform and deliver a smoother, more reliable user experience.

Safaricom explained that the maintenance has been scheduled during off-peak hours to minimise disruption to users.

The company also issued an apology to customers for any inconvenience the exercise may cause.

This update comes just months after Fuliza users experienced a service outage on September 30, when many were unable to complete top-ups.

At the time, Safaricom acknowledged the problem and assured customers that teams were working to restore normal operations.

Fuliza is an M-Pesa overdraft service that lets users complete transactions when they don’t have enough balance.

Launched in 2019 by Safaricom, NCBA, and KCB, it now serves millions daily.

Users must opt in, after which Fuliza automatically advances funds up to a set limit based on their M-Pesa usage and repayment history.

Borrowed amounts and fees are deducted from the next M-Pesa deposit.
