Four Filmmakers Arrested Over Controversial ‘Blood Parliament’ Documentary

Four filmmakers have been arrested in connection with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC )’s ‘Blood Parliament’ documentary.

The four, identified as Nicholas Gichuki, Brian Adagala, Mark Denver Karubiu, and Chris Wamae, were arrested by the police on Friday, May 2, 2025, from their studios in Karen.

The four are currently being held at Muthaiga and Pangani police stations.

Reports indicate that during their arrest, the police seized their equipment and hard drives.

The arrest followed the release of a 4O minute documentary that features some of the killings witnessed by Gen Z during last year’s protest in June and exposed that one of the shooters was from the Kenya Defence Forces.

The documentary also features prominent activists such as Hanifa Adan, Boniface Mwangi, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Faith Odhimabo and student journalist Allans Ademba.

The documentary named the victims who were shot outside Parliament, including David Chege and Erickson Mutisya.

The arrest has sparked mixed reactions from Kenyans, with many criticizing the government for what they view as an attack on press freedom and the right to free expression.

While others felt that it was a bad move, alleging that the government wants to go back to the days of abductions and enforced disappearances.
