Retired Bishop Philip Sulumeti of the Catholic Diocese of Kakamega has passed away at the age of 88.
In a statement released on Monday, November 10, Kakamega Diocese Bishop Joseph Obanyi confirmed that Bishop Sulumeti died on Sunday at 11 p.m. while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Bishop Obanyi urged the faithful to keep the late bishop in their prayers and remember him during masses.

He added that details regarding the burial arrangements would be communicated in due course.
The late Bishop Philip Sulumeti was born on August 15, 1937, in Kobur Village, Busia County.
He was ordained as a priest on January 6, 1966, and served in the Diocese of Kisumu until May 28, 1972, when he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Kisumu and Titular Bishop of Urci.
On February 28, 1978, Bishop Sulumeti was appointed the first Bishop of the newly established Diocese of Kakamega, where he served faithfully until his retirement on December 5, 2014.
He was succeeded by Bishop Joseph Obanyi, who continues to serve as the Bishop of Kakamega Diocese.
