Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has responded to concerns raised by Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy over unpaid player allowances and work permits, saying it is working with the government to resolve the outstanding issues.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, FKF said the Ministry of Sports had confirmed that an outstanding payment from a previous Harambee Stars assignment had been cleared and was expected to reflect by Thursday.
The federation added that other payments related to national team preparations and allowances were at different stages of processing.
McCarthy had raised concerns over the welfare of players and the technical team, saying some players had attended four or five national team camps without receiving promised allowances.
He also said he and members of his foreign technical staff had worked for about one and a half years without formal Kenyan work permits.
FKF said it was addressing the work permit issue and maintained that the process was administrative and ongoing.
The federation also said it remains in communication with the Ministry of Sports and other relevant government offices to resolve the outstanding matters.
The developments come as Harambee Stars prepare for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Kenya is scheduled to host Eritrea at Nyayo Stadium on September 26 before travelling to Conakry to face Guinea on October 1.
