Fire Ravages Sugarcane Farm in Angata Barrikoi

A section of the Angata Barrikoi sugarcane plantation linked to the Angata Sugar Factory was burnt down in a suspected arson attack.

Reports indicate that the sugarcane plantation was burned down by unknown individuals at around 10 p.m.

The emergency teams responded to the scene to contain the spread of the fire, they blamed arsonists for the incident.

According to reports, the fire consumed approximately six acres of land, which has caused significant loss to local farmers and the sugar factory.

The incident comes days after five individuals in the same region were killed while several were injured due to a disputed piece of land.

Violence erupted when the residents claiming ownership of the disputed land blocked the main road to prevent land officials from conducting the survey.

The violence not only resulted in fatalities, but also destruction of properties, such as vehicles belonging to the land officials were damaged by the protesting locals.

When the autopsy was conducted on the five deceased victims, it was confirmed that they died from gunshot wounds.
