World football governing body FIFA has rejected attempts by a section of Football Kenya Federation National Executive Committee members to force FKF president Hussein Mohammed and other officials to step aside.
In a strongly worded letter dated May 25, 2026 and addressed to FKF National Executive Committee members, FIFA said the process used to push for the suspension of the officials did not comply with the FKF Constitution and therefore could not be recognised.
The letter signed by FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov stated that the world football body had reviewed the information and documents submitted regarding the matter and found that the required constitutional procedures were not followed.
According to FIFA, Article 41 of the 2017 FKF Constitution clearly outlines the process that must be followed before any FKF official can be provisionally suspended or removed from office.
FIFA explained that any decision requiring an official to “step aside” amounts to a provisional suspension and must therefore follow all legal and procedural requirements including proper justification, inclusion of the matter in the agenda, communication to National Executive Committee members, voting procedures and allowing the affected officials the right to be heard.
“FIFA therefore categorically rejects the procedure that has been followed in this matter,” part of the letter stated.
The world football body further noted that the information and documentation provided by the concerned FKF officials did not demonstrate that the constitutional requirements had been respected.
FIFA warned that actions taken outside the constitutional framework of FKF cannot produce valid legal effects within the federation and may expose the individuals involved to disciplinary action.
The organisation also cautioned FKF leaders against making rushed decisions capable of destabilising football management in the country saying Kenya has previously experienced periods of institutional instability within football administration.
“We would like to recall that the FKF has experienced periods of institutional instability in the past and it is essential that all FKF members act with restraint, responsibility and strict respect for the FKF Constitution,” FIFA stated in the letter.
The football governing body further urged FKF officials to prioritise stability, legality and good governance while handling internal disputes affecting the federation.
FIFA also reminded FKF members that disciplinary matters involving federation officials should only be handled by the competent judicial bodies established under the FKF Constitution and regulations.
