A family in Nyamira County is mourning the death of a 39-year-old father of two who passed away weeks after he was allegedly assaulted by a government administrator and local security volunteers.
The deceased, a resident of Enchoro Village, reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained in mid-December following an encounter involving an assistant chief and members of the Nyumba Kumi initiative.
Relatives say the incident took place on December 11 as the man was on his way home with his family.

They claim the assistant chief stopped them on suspicion that the deceased was ferrying illicit alcohol.
What followed was a violent encounter that left the family devastated. The widow said her husband was struck, fell to the ground, and was beaten by Nyumba Kumi youths.
She also claimed she was assaulted, while their son was allegedly attacked when he tried to intervene.
The assistant chief denied the claims, saying the man fled and may have been injured elsewhere.
The widow reported the matter at Kiambere Police Station and obtained an OB number, alleging previous harassment by the administrator.
A postmortem revealed the man died from a skull fracture caused by blunt force trauma.
His body remains at Nyamira County Morgue as the family seeks justice.
