The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has termed as fake a viral document circulating on social media alleging that presidential aide Farouk Kibet is a wanted person.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 4, the agency addressed an image widely shared online purporting to be an official press release indicating that Kibet was being sought for questioning over alleged criminal activities.
The fabricated notice features the letterhead of the National Police Service and claims to have originated from DCI headquarters.

It further describes Kibet as a former Chief of Protocol and provides a hotline number, urging members of the public to share information about his alleged whereabouts.
However, the DCI clarified that the document is fraudulent and did not originate from the agency.
This development follows an earlier clarification by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which dismissed social media claims that one of its officers had died at its Kiambu Road headquarters.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 23, the agency confirmed the passing of Corporal James Muiruri Mburu, who was attached to DCI Kajiado North Sub-County, clarifying that the circulating reports had misrepresented the circumstances.
The DCI conveyed its condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues, and assured them of institutional support during the mourning period.
Addressing claims that the officer died at its headquarters, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) clarified that the incident did not occur at its Kiambu Road offices.
The agency stated that the incident took place in Ngong, after which the officer was rushed to Ngong Level IV Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The DCI also refuted reports circulating online regarding the discovery of the body, explaining that it was not family members who found him.
Instead, he was discovered unresponsive in his kitchen garden by a neighbor’s house help.
DCI) stated that three fellow officers responded promptly after receiving the alert and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident was formally recorded at Ngong Police Station under OB No. 38/21/02/2026.
The agency confirmed that a formal investigation has since been initiated, with a postmortem examination scheduled to determine the precise cause of death.
As inquiries continue, the DCI urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the bereaved family privacy and dignity during the mourning period.
