Fake Apple Recovery Sites Put iPhone Users at Risk of Data Theft

iPhone users have been warned about a growing fraud scheme targeting individuals who have lost their iPhones.

In a statement on Sunday, March 39, 2026, Kenyan entrepreneur Khalif Kairo has cautioned iPhone users to avoid falling for scammers posing as rescuers to track their phones.

Initially, when you lose your iPhone, you always retrace your steps, try calling it, log in to Find My iPhone, and hope someone honest will return it.

However, the real problem comes from carefully crafted scam websites.

“If you lose an iPhone and get this message a few days later, do not go to that website and log in with your details. It’s a fake Apple website designed to get your real iCloud details and completely wipe your phone. Message contact reads Apple, but the URL is completely different,” Kairo stated.

According to reports, the scheme starts when victims receive what appears to be a legitimate SMS allegedly from Apple Support.

According to the message, the device’s status has been updated to lost mode and that it is in a new location.

Additionally, the message provides a link that looks official to unsuspecting individuals.

However, the URL is a fake website, cleverly designed to look like an official Apple iCloud page.

Reports indicate that the URL contains Domains that mimic the tone and structure of Apple services, tricking users into believing they are logging into iCloud to track their phone.

As soon as they enter their Apple ID and password, they hand full control of the lost phone to the scammer.
