The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has busted an illegal petroleum-syphoning site in Nairobi.
According to a statement by EPRA, the Energy Police Unit raided the site located at Nadume Road off Lunga-Lunga Road in the Industrial area in Nairobi County.
Today, our ever hawk-eyed surveillance & enforcement team, in collaboration with the Energy Police Unit, raided an open-air illegal petroleum-siphoning site located at Nadume road off Lunga Lunga road at Industrial area in Nairobi County,” EPRA said in a statement.
During the operation, the police seized approximately 800 litres of syphoned fuel.
EPRA also recovered assorted equipment used in the illegal activity, including rubber pipes, drums, an aluminium container and 20-litre jerrycans.
However, police and EPRA officials didn’t arrest the syndicate involved in the illegal operations.
According to the regulation, the suspects got wind of police presence through their informers and scampered for safety to evade arrest.
“The site has been secured as the hunt for the culprits intensifies,” the regulatory added.
With this, the regulatory has urged the public and industry stakeholders to report any suspicious petroleum-related activities to the Authority through 0709 336 000 or the nearest police station.
