Embu High Court Confirms Mbeere North Parliamentary Election Outcome

The High Court in Embu has upheld the election of Leonard Wa Muthende Njeru as the Member of Parliament for Mbeere North following a ruling delivered on Thursday, May 21.

Justice Richard Mwongo dismissed the election petition challenging his victory, effectively confirming the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate as the duly elected MP for the constituency.

The court further ordered that the certificate of the court on the validity of the election be transmitted to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in line with the provisions of the Elections Act.

The petition had been filed by Newton Kariuki Ndwiga, who sought to overturn the results of the November 27, 2025 Mbeere North by-election.

He had argued that the electoral process was flawed and that the outcome did not reflect the will of the voters.

However, after hearing the case, the court found that the petitioner had not provided sufficient evidence to warrant nullification of the results.

Justice Mwongo held that the election was conducted in a manner that substantially complied with the law and electoral regulations.

As a result, the court confirmed that Leonard Wa Muthende Njeru, who won the by-election by a narrow margin of 494 votes, remains the legitimately elected Member of Parliament for Mbeere North Constituency.

The ruling brings finality to the legal dispute and allows the MP to continue discharging his legislative duties without interruption.
