EACC Targets Nakuru Water Official in Bribery Sting, Recovers KSh100,000

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended a staff member of the Nakuru Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) over alleged involvement in a bribery scheme.

According to reports, the suspect was nabbed on Monday, March 23, 2026, after a complaint from a member of the public in Langa Langa Estate who accused him of demanding Ksh15,000 to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter.

“The suspect, Leonard Cheruiyot Mutai, a Leak Detection Officer, was apprehended on March 23, 2026, following a complaint by a member of the public who claimed the officer demanded KES 15,000 to facilitate the replacement of a confiscated water meter in Langa Langa Estate”, part of the statement read.

This prompted the detectives to launch investigations, leading to the official’s arrest while allegedly receiving the bribe.

During the operations, detectives recovered Ksh15,000 in cash from the suspect, alongside an additional Ksh100,000 hidden in his socks and Ksh18,000 found in his coat pocket, all suspected to be from corruption.

According to the EACC, the recovery of the large sums of money raised further suspicion of ongoing corrupt practices, with investigations now underway to establish whether more individuals or transactions are linked to the case.

Reports indicate that the suspect was taken to the commission’s South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing before being detained at Central Police Station.

“he suspect was taken to the Commission’s South Rift Regional Office, Nakuru, for processing and later detained at Central Police Station. He was released on a police cash bail of Kes20,000 pending conclusion of the investigation”, the statement added.
