Dr Job Obwaka Hospitalized After Sudden Complications in Milimani Court

The Nairobi Hospital dispatched an ambulance to Milimani Court on Monday, March 16, after Dr Job Obwaka developed health complications while in court.

Dr Obwaka, who was brought in by police under unclear circumstances from his workplace, also serves as the Chairperson of the Nairobi Hospital.

He appeared weak and required assistance from medical personnel into the ambulance for monitoring.

He and three other doctors Nairobi Hospital Board Vice Chair Samson Kinyanjui, former Chair Dr Chris Bichange, and Board Director Valery Gaya were awaiting the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to process their charge sheets after spending more than 48 hours in police custody.

Preliminary reports indicate they face allegations of falsifying the hospital’s member register and conflict of interest.

Their lawyers, Danstan Omari, Nelson Havi, and Charles Kanjama, expressed concern over the delay in processing the charges, noting that two of the doctors are elderly and that Dr Obwaka required medical attention.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) also called for clarity on the circumstances of the arrests, urging authorities to follow due legal process, including granting bail as provided under Kenyan law.
