Double Murder Cases in Siaya and Bungoma Spark DCI Investigations

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are probing two separate murder cases reported in Siaya and Bungoma counties.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 5, the agency confirmed that three suspects have been arrested and key exhibits recovered as investigations continue.

In Siaya County, two male suspects were apprehended by members of the public while allegedly attempting to dispose of the body of an unidentified man along the Busia–Kisumu Highway near the Savanah area in Ugunja.

The two were reportedly subjected to mob justice before police officers intervened and rescued them.

According to the DCI, the suspects sustained injuries during the incident but were later treated and discharged.

Police further confirmed that the deceased’s body bore visible signs of trauma and has since been moved to a mortuary as efforts to establish his identity continue.

Detectives also recovered a white Toyota Vitz, registration number KCB 949N, which is believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

Notably,in a separate incident in Bungoma County, detectives from Bungoma West arrested a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) serviceman in connection with the murder of 45-year-old Wycliff Masasabi Wanambuko.

The incident is reported to have occurred at a social joint in Wamono Centre.

The suspect, Corporal Moses Wamema Kirui attached to Lanet Barracks, was arrested on Saturday, April 4, and remains in custody as investigators work to reconstruct the events leading up to the fatal incident.

Authorities indicated that a key piece of evidence was recovered at the scene, including a blood-stained blue T-shirt believed to be linked to the crime, which has since been preserved as an exhibit. 

The body of the deceased was moved to Bungoma County Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
