DJ Shiti Comments on Plans to Bury Mbotela at Lang’ata Cemetery

Comedian DJ Shiti has recently shared his views on the burial plans of veteran journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, Shiti shared a note about Mbotela’s Langata Cemetery burial and reminded artistes that they are on their own.

According to Shiti, the late journalist deserved to have a statue or commercial street named after him for his contribution to the media industry.

Shiti went on to add that Kenya should also reward him with a state burial and ensure to make that day a holiday so that fans can mourn a hero.

“Wasanii na watangazaji, never forget that we are on our own. This icon deserves a statue or commercial street named after him, state burial na ikiwezekana ikuwe holiday. But since aliuwa mzee mngwana hakukuwa anapenda mbwembwe na kelele, hakuna mwanasiasa ataenda juu hakuna makeke. Yani tumejipata Kenya bahati mbaya. Safiri salama shujaa,” he wrote.

Recently, radio presenter Fred Machoka also expressed his disappointment over the legend’s planned burial.

However, journalist Yassin Juma explained the reasons why Mbotela was to be laid at Lang’ata.

Juma said that if Mbotela was to be buried at his ancestral home, that would have to be in the village of Mpanda on the shores of Lake Malawi in Malawi.

“If you want him to be buried at his ancestral home that would mean flying his body to the village of Mpanda on the shores of Lake Malawi in Malawi.”

Juma also revealed that most of Mbotela’s family members are buried in the public cemetery at Freretown in Mombasa.

He further noted that it was Mbotela’s family’s will to bury him at Lang’ata, and called on Kenyans to respect it.
