DCP Convoy Blocked and Teargased by Police Along Nakuru-Nyahururu Highway

Drama was witnessed along the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway heading towards Subukia town on July 20 when a convoy from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) was blocked and teargased by police.

The convoy, which was led by key DCP leaders including the party’s deputy Cleophas Malala, was blocked from proceeding to Subukia town by a police road block.

The leaders had attended a church service at Subukia AIC in Nakuru County and were expected to proceed to Subukia town to address residents.

However, authorities, who caught wind of the leaders’ presence in Subukia, manned roadblocks as they blocked the leaders from conducting a political rally.

videos shared online showed Nyandarua Senator John Methu attempting to negotiate a way through alongside Malala.

Authorities, who were seemingly well prepared for a collision course with the leaders’ convoy, erected a roadblock, complete with spikes and a warning sign, as tens of officers stood-by along the busy highway.

However, the leaders’ pleas were not heeded as police were adamant there was no prior notice of a public function.

The tensions led to some agitated DCP supporters threatening to cause chaos at the scene.

As tensions escalated, and with the leaders adamant they would proceed with their journey, authorities hurled teargas canisters.

However, the leaders were later spotted at a public rally in Nakuru, although details of how they bypassed the roadblock remain unclear.
