DCI Nabs Two Terror Suspects in Mandera

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two suspected members of the Al-Shabaab in Mandera.

Reports indicate that the two had planned the abduction of a team of foreign nationals working at a sewer line construction site in Mandera township.

The Prime suspect named Abdi Mohammed alias Karan Abdi Hassan is said to have sneaked his way into the county from El-ade in Somalia and forged documents to be identified as Kenyan.

After his arrest, he was interrogated, and it was revealed that the suspect was to pay Ksh.100,000 to his local associate identified as Noor Yacob Ali who would assist him in the abduction process.

“On keen scrutiny and thorough interrogation, it was discovered that the suspect was to pay Ksh100,000 to his local associate, who would assist in the abduction exercise before he and another, Noor Yacob Ali, 29 facilitated the to-be victims’ movement to El-ade at Ksh300,000 fee” DCI stated.

Yacob Ali was cornered and arrested at Metameta area within Mandera township by a multi-agency security team.

The two are undergoing further investigation for being members of a terrorist group which according to DCI is a serious offence under the prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).
