DCI Nabs Father, Son in Connection to Ksh236,000 Fraud at Gikomba M-Pesa Shop

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a father and son accused of defrauding an M-Pesa shop of Ksh236,000 at Gikomba market.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 2, the agency said the duo was tracked down to their residence in Komarock’s Nyama Villa estate after investigators pursued leads linked to the fraud.

Detectives recovered items believed to have been used in the scheme including laptops and smartphones.

The DCI noted that it has since been established that the father was the mastermind of the scheme and had introduced his son to it.

The two suspects are being held in custody as detectives work to apprehend other members of the syndicate before presenting them in court.

The arrests come barely a month after DCI officers in Lamu County’s Watamu area nabbed two individuals accused of engaging in a similar money fraud scheme.

Investigators reported that the duo had been posing as Safaricom agents to swindle unsuspecting locals.

Their scheme came to an end when they attempted to con a businessman by registering him to a fake till directory and other counterfeit Safaricom products, leading to their arrest.
