The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched investigations following an explosion at a restaurant.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the DCI confirmed that the incident which occurred at an eatery in the Shafshafey area of Mandera left one person injured.
According to the DCI, at the time of the explosion, only four customers were inside the eatery, where three fled from the incident unhurt while one sustained a fractured left femur and pellet injuries to the abdomen.
The injured victim was rushed to Mandera Referral Hospital but is now in stable condition and receiving treatment.

The investigations revealed that the explosion had blown off the hotel’s rooftop and caused visible cracks on the wall.
Further preliminary investigation revealed that two of those who fled from the explosion unhurt were the masterminds behind the attack.
The suspects have since been arrested and are currently in custody as investigations continue.
The police are now pursuing the bodaboda rider who brought the suspects into the hotel and ran off immediately after the incident.
