Detectives have killed a key suspect linked to the viral armed robbery at a restaurant in Spring Valley, Nairobi, following a shootout in Joska, Machakos County.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers recovered a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition, additional live rounds, spent cartridges, and three mobile phones from the scene.
According to the DCI, the key suspect is believed to have been part of a wider criminal network responsible for a series of violent robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect is also linked to the armed robbery at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, which sparked widespread public attention after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.
In the footage, armed robbers could be seen storming the restaurant, terrorising diners and making away with phones and other valuables before fleeing on motorcycles.
“Preliminary investigations strongly link the suspect to the recent daylight robbery along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, where armed thugs terrorised diners, snatching phones and valuables before fleeing on motorcycles,” DCI stated.
Acting on credible intelligence, the investigators teamed up with officers from DCI Matungulu to launch a raid on a house in Joska Town.
The suspect had reportedly been hiding out at his girlfriend’s house in the area, believing it would keep him out of reach of the law
