DCI Arrests Suspected Leader of Mombasa Highway Robbery Syndicate

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have nabbed a 38-year-old car robbery suspect.

According to reports, the man was the mastermind of a highway attack that left one motorist badly injured and his vehicle stolen.

According to the DCI, the victim had been driving from Mombasa to Malaba when he offered a ride to two hitchhikers at Mariakani.

After arriving at Kiundani Market, one of the passengers requested to alight the vehicle leading the driver to slow down to let him off.

It was at that instant that two assailants jumped outside a nearby thicket and attacked him with a blunt object, then vanished with the car and his bag of belongings.

Reports indicate that forensic leads led the DCI to track the stolen vehicle to Ukia in Makueni Sub-County, where they ultimately arrested the suspect.

During the arrest, the authorities seized several other items, including a getaway motorcycle and two sets of number plates, one of which had previously been stolen from a parked motor vehicle and a pair of screwdrivers.

The suspect is currently in police custody awaiting arraignment.
