A team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters has arrested a 39-year-old suspect linked to a criminal gang believed to be behind a series of violent robberies and gang rape incidents in Ruai and Kamulu.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 23, the DCI said the suspect, identified as Shadrack Nyandieka Nyakwaba, was arrested at Tassia Estate in Embakasi following investigations into the attacks, which left several victims traumatised and one person dead.
According to investigators, one of the incidents occurred on June 11, 2026, when Nyakwaba and his accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly broke into a home in Ruai and held an entire family hostage.

The gang is said to have subjected members of the household to physical violence and other traumatic offences while demanding money and valuables.
Detectives said the suspects also forced the victims to transfer money through mobile banking before making away with electronic devices and other valuables.
In a separate attack in Kamulu, the gang allegedly stormed another residence, where they held occupants captive as they searched for cash and valuables.
The suspects reportedly coerced the victims into transferring money from their mobile phones and bank accounts before fleeing the scene.
During the escape, a neighbour who had responded to the victims’ distress sustained fatal injuries.
The DCI said detectives launched an intensive investigation that culminated in Nyakwaba’s arrest at his hideout in Tassia Estate.
Investigators also arrested Monica Nyangau Sarange in Utawala after establishing links between her and the movement of the stolen funds.
The two suspects are being held in police custody pending their arraignment in court as detectives continue pursuing other members of the gang who remain at large.
The DCI said investigations into the criminal network are ongoing as officers seek to apprehend all suspects connected to the violent attacks.
