Detectives have arrested a 38-year-old man after recovering heroin worth an estimated Sh1 million from a Nairobi-bound bus during an anti-narcotics operation along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted the bus at Taru after acting on intelligence about suspected drug trafficking.
During the search, detectives found four sachets of heroin weighing a total of 300 grammes concealed inside a brown bag belonging to the suspect.

The officers also recovered Sh95,000 in cash, which is believed to be proceeds of the illegal drug trade.
“A routine bus journey came to an abrupt end for one passenger after detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted a Nairobi-bound bus and uncovered a stash of heroin worth approximately Ksh1 million. Acting on a tip off, the detectives mounted an operation along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway at Taru, where they flagged down the bus for a search.Inside were four sachets of heroin weighing a total of 300 grammes, along with Sh95,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime,” the statement read.
The suspect, identified as Brian Tabu Owuor, was immediately arrested and is currently in police custody awaiting processing before being arraigned in court.
The recovered heroin and cash have been detained as exhibits, with the DCI saying investigations are ongoing to establish the origin of the drugs, their intended destination and whether the suspect is linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
