Dan Maanzo Reveals He Was Offered Ksh. 4M to Support Gachagua’s Impeachment

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has claimed that he was offered a Sh4 million bribe to oust former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua from office.

This he said in an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday 3 2025.

According to the senator, the bribes were offered by ‘state agents’ who wanted to influence the voting process against Gachagua.

“At least in the Gachagua matter, there was such an approach, and it didn’t work, and it had conditions. It was an offer of KSH 4 million if you vote YES. And if you take it and vote NO, then you’d not get to your home”, Maanzo said.

Considering the rollout of the Social Health Authority, Maanzo insisted that bribery culture was the only way to address the challenges facing the new healthcare system.

“People who come to the house to convince people. They said for Gachagua’s removal, they want 100% vote of the Senate. Some of them are MPs, and others come from the hill. That’s why SHA and SHIF have a problem. “, he added.

The Makueni senator, therefore, urged for bribery in the House to stop, citing that the country is being run through bribes.

During Gachagua’s impeachment case, 49 senators voted to remove him from office while 16 voted against the impeachment.

Two senators were reported to have abstained from voting.
