Cunha rescues Manchester United with late Fulham equaliser

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday after Matheus Cunha scored a late equaliser to rescue a point for Michael Carrick’s side.

Fulham took the lead in the 63rd minute when a shot from Calvin Bassey was deflected into the Manchester United goal by defender Lisandro Martínez.

The hosts appeared on course for their first Premier League victory of the season.

United, however, responded late when Cunha’s effort in the 89th minute took a deflection off Fulham defender David Affengruber before beating goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The result ended United’s run of consecutive defeats against Manchester City and Brighton, but leaves them with just one Premier League victory from their opening five matches of the season.

Bruno Fernandes hit the woodwork in the first half, while Leno made several important saves to keep Fulham level before the hosts took the lead.

For Fulham, the draw means they remain without a Premier League victory under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

The London club had been seeking their first home league win over Manchester United since 2009.

The match was played at Craven Cottage in London as part of the fifth round of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
