CS Wandayi Explains Cause of Fuel Shortage in Kenya

Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has attributed the fuel shortages reported at filling stations across the country to a technical and administrative hitch.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 6, the Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary explained that the disruption affected the ability of some oil marketing companies within the downstream supply chain to optimally access petroleum products.

The CS noted that the challenge was limited to certain players in the distribution chain, leading to temporary supply gaps in select areas rather than a nationwide depletion of fuel stocks.

Wandayi added that the issue has since been resolved, with the government now working closely with industry stakeholders to restore normal fuel deliveries and stabilise supply across the country.

According to Wandayi, normal fuel supply across the country is expected to be restored by the end of the day.

The CS noted that the issue has already been resolved, with the Ministry now working closely with industry stakeholders to stabilise deliveries.

He added that restocking is currently underway at affected filling stations.

Wandayi went on to express confidence that supply will return to normal within the day as distribution continues to improve across various regions.

He also reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm, emphasising that the country has sufficient fuel reserves to meet demand.
