CS Murkomen Refutes Gachagua’s Claims of Drug Barons in Cabinet

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has strongly rebutted allegations by Rigathi Gachagua that two Cabinet Secretaries appointed by President Ruto are involved in drug trafficking.

Murkomen described the claims as politically motivated and accused Gachagua of using tribal lenses to interpret national issues.

According to the Interior CS,Gachagua  has a tendency to view any national initiative whether in education, alcohol regulation, or law enforcement through an ethnic or personal tribal perspective, a stance Murkomen argued undermines national unity and constructive debate.

Murkomen reiterated that all Cabinet Secretaries, including those currently serving, underwent a rigorous vetting process by the National Assembly before appointment.

He insisted that anyone found with any proven links to drug trafficking or criminal activity would have been disqualified from holding public office, dismissing the accusations as baseless political gimmicks.

The CS emphasized that the government remains fully committed to the fight against drug and alcohol abuse nationwide, highlighting ongoing enforcement measures, awareness campaigns, and rehabilitation efforts across the country.

The remarks come days after Gachagua publicly claimed that two Cabinet Secretaries were allegedly involved in illegal drug trade and called on President Ruto to dismiss them if he was serious about the national war on drugs.

Gachagua suggested that failure to act would raise questions about the credibility of the government’s anti-drug initiatives.
