CS Murkomen Announces Monday as National Holiday to Mark Idd-ul-Fitr

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has declared Monday, March 31, 2025, a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr celebrations.

The announcement was made through a gazzette notice dated Friday, 28, 2025.

“It is notified for the general information pf the public that, in exercise of the powers conferned by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Monday, the 31st March, 2025, shall be a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr” the notice read.

Idd-ul-Fitr is the first of the two main festivals in Islam.

It falls on the first day of Shawal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

The event is celebrated by Muslims worldwide because it marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting of Ramadan.

This comes days after President Ruto hosted Muslim leaders at State House for Iftar and acknowledged that there is freedom of worship in Kenya.

“I am very proud as president of this country that I lead a religious nation, and I want to tell you that we must never take it for granted that we have the freedom of worship in Kenya and that we can worship God however we want”, the Head of State said.
