Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has condemned police brutality after CCTV footage showed officers assaulting young men playing pool in Nandi Hills Town.
In a statement on Friday, January 16, the Senator described the incident as a clear abuse of human rights.
He accused the officers of violating Article 244 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010), which requires the National Police Service to uphold human rights, maintain high standards of professionalism, and foster positive relationships with the public.

The Nandi Senator has called on Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to interdict the officers involved in the assault of youths in Nandi Hills Town.

Senator Cherargei further requested that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) launch investigations into the acts of police brutality.
He said he has engaged the Senate Committee on National Security to examine the matter urgently, stressing the need for measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
CCTV footage captured the incident, showing a group of young men playing pool when uniformed police officers stormed the establishment.
The officers ordered the youths to lie on the floor and proceeded to slap some and beat others with batons.
The assault lasted for nearly eight minutes before the officers left the premises.
