Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has reacted after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula ejected him from Parliament.
The Embakasi East MP was on Tuesday, July 1, ordered by Wetangula to leave Parliament for dressing inappropriately.
This was after Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch called the Speaker and urged him to address the matter properly.
“If I look at the Speaker’s panel, including yourself, you are dressed in a collar. Is it in order that the member from Embakasi East walks and sits in the house dressed as the speaker? We need guidance on whether this forms part of the proper dressing code of this house”, Oluoch lamented.
Babu Owino, on the other hand, claimed that his ejection from Parliament was unwarranted.
According to the lawmaker, it was unreasonable for him to be sent out for dressing as a lawyer since he spent more than five years studying as an advocate.
“Today, the Speaker ejected me for dressing in a bib, it is quite funny because it took me six years, including 4 years in undergraduate and 2 years in the Kenya School of Law. A total of six years for me to earn this dress code”, the Lawmaker said.
“The whole parliament, over 300 MPs, just went to the shop for five minutes and bought a tie, while it took me six years to earn this. So you wonder who was supposed to be ent out, because the Speaker was also dressed in the same way”, he added.
