The National Police Service (NPS) has apprehended 56 suspects following violent disturbances that erupted on June 19, 2026, during a public event in Nakuru County.
According to reports, the event was attended by senior government officials, county leaders and members of the public.
In a statement by NPS, the service revealed that during the operation, they recovered several exhibits from the suspects, which are believed to have been used during the disturbances.
The service said it has launched investigations into the violence and is examining the recovered exhibits and other evidence to establish what happened and who was responsible.
It added that it remains committed to conducting thorough investigations and ensuring those found culpable are held accountable in accordance with the law.
The 56 suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue into the incident.
According to reports, the arrest came after at least three people were shot and injured when violence broke out at the event.
The three victims, who sustained gunshot wounds to their hands and legs, were rushed to Molo Level 4 Hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
Police further said that investigations are underway to establish who fired the shots.
