Asake Breaks Silence After Fan Dies at Nairobi Concert

Nigerian music star Asake has spoken out following the death of a fan during his concert at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi on December 20.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 22, the singer expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, and called for accountability to establish what led to the tragedy.

Asake said the incident went against the spirit of his music and performances, noting that his intention has always been to spread love and joy.

He also offered prayers for the family and for the deceased to rest in peace.

Event organisers Tukutane Entertainment also confirmed the incident, saying they are working closely with authorities as investigations continue. 

They expressed deep sorrow over the loss and conveyed condolences to the family and loved ones affected by the tragedy.

The organisers reiterated their commitment to safety, noting that the well-being of attendees remains a priority. 

They said they are fully cooperating with emergency services and investigators to establish what led to the incident, adding that they would avoid speculation out of respect for the family and the ongoing probe.

Reacting to the incident, lawyer Willis Otieno said the tragedy raises serious legal and moral questions about responsibility at public events. 

He noted that organisers, promoters, and authorities owe attendees a duty of care, emphasizing that accountability must follow when that duty is breached.
