Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale recently held bilateral discussions with Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) Director-General Dr Jean Kaseya on Kenya’s response to the Ebola outbreak and measures to strengthen public health preparedness.
In an update, Duale said he briefed Kaseya on the government’s response measures, including efforts to contain the outbreak and strengthen surveillance and emergency preparedness.
Kaseya reaffirmed Africa CDC’s commitment to supporting Kenya through financial, technical and operational assistance, including the deployment of experts, provision of diagnostic supplies and enhanced surveillance and contact tracing.

According to Duale, Africa CDC has mobilised approximately $1.51 million (about Ksh195 million) to support Kenya’s Ebola response.
The continental health agency has also provided laboratory supplies and equipment worth $350,000 (approximately Ksh45.2 million) to strengthen the country’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre.
The support is expected to boost Kenya’s capacity to detect infections, trace contacts and coordinate emergency interventions as authorities work to contain the outbreak.
Duale said the discussions reaffirmed the government’s commitment to coordinated action, regional cooperation and African solidarity in protecting lives and strengthening preparedness against emerging health threats.
The meeting brought together senior Ministry of Health officials, including Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga, Director-General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth and Digital Health Agency Chief Executive Officer Eng Anthony Lenayara, among other officials.
The engagement comes as Kenya continues to strengthen its response to the Ebola outbreak through surveillance, emergency preparedness and collaboration with regional and international health partners.
