A Sunday of Barren Draws in the FKF Premier League

This Sunday, both matches ended in goalless draws. Gor Mahia held Tusker FC to a 0-0 draw at Machakos Stadium, while Mathare United played to a similar result against Shabana FC in a packed Gusii Stadium.

In the first half, Tusker FC had two opportunities to score but failed to capitalize on them. In one instance, Naaman Balecho took a volley shot from inside the box, but it went just wide of the goal.

Later, in the 15th minute, Ryan Ogam intercepted a ball that had been played behind the defence, but his shot went straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.

This would have then remained to be the brewer’s attempts in the whole match as less was witnessed after.

Gor Mahia, on the other hand, nearly scored in the 46th minute from a Moses Sirengo curve from the right, but Tusker FC’s goalkeeper, Moses Opondo, stretched out wide to tip the ball away.

Gor Mahia remain third with 35 points, 4 points behind second placed Tusker FC.

In the other match, Shabana FC introduced their branded match day mascots and launched into their attacking football in style. In the third minute, goalkeeper Michael Wanyika was forced to make a one-on-one save against Shabana’s Dennis Okoth, helping keep Mathare in the game.

The first half came to an end after a Mathare resign Donald Ange deflected left-footed shot went inches away from the goal post, resulting in an unutilised corner kick.

Shabana, again on a second-half high, came close to scoring, but unfortunately, Elvis Osok, on a free header, headed wide, a Brian Michira corner kick.

Michael Wanyika again made a one-on-one save, denying Brian Michira an open chance after he pounced on a defence-splitting pass.

Shabana’s forward Darius Msagha almost handed the hosts the much-needed goal in the 84th minute from a technically well-curved free kick, but again, Michael Wanyika made what a save to deny it going into the net.

Mathare United’s goalkeeper single-handedly was up to the task and on top of the game, denying Shabana all three points as the match ended 0-0.

Shabana leapfront to the 8th position with 29 points as Mathare United pull themselves out of the relegation zone to 22 points in the 14th position.
