A 29-year-old man, Anwar Said Balozi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling a 10-year-old girl.
The crime was committed on October 10, 2021, in Ziwani village, Tana River North Sub-County, where he lured the victim while she was collecting firewood in a nearby bush.
He, therefore, fled the scene after the act and went into hiding for three years before his arrest on December 25, 2025.
The minor’s testimony revealed that Balozi strangled and pinned her on the ground before committing the act.
“The minor testified that Balozi strangled and pinned her to the ground before committing the act. He also inflicted serious injuries that led to her being hospitalized for days”, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said.
Balozi was handed the life sentence at the Garissa Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 5, 2025, after a 65-day trial by Magistrate Robert Lemayan.
He ruled that the prosecution proved that the accused could commit the offence.
