The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has moved to quickly put an end to tension after hints that the party supported Sakaja in 2027 elections as Nairobi Governor.
The ODM Leadership on Monday 10th February 2025 attended a prayer convection at the Bomas of Kenya to support Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission Chairmanship set to take place in days’ time.
During the event, Sakaja was urged to join the party the political party for the 2027 reelection bid.
This prompted Sakaja to state that in two weeks he would want to have a meeting with ODM bosses in Nairobi.

“I’ve heard what Aladwa and (Gladys) Wanga have said. Where there are clouds, there is rain. In two weeks, I want to have a meeting with ODM bosses in Nairobi. I want to show you that I’m one of you” he said.
This was however denied during an interview on Ramogi FM by the party’s Chairperson Governor Gladys Wanga.
She added that the main aim of mentioning Sakaja during the event was for his wish that the Governor would make Nairobi politically steady.
“Jakom (Raila) never talked about 2027. I want us to be clear here. He only wants Nairobi to be politically steady under the stewardship of Sakaja. He never talked about 2027. I want to make it hear on behalf of the party that all aspirants interested in the governorship position will come out and contest freely” said Wanga.
The Homa Bay county Governor added that Babu Owino is more eligible for the position since he has proved to be a strong member for ODM.
“He is a strong and respected member of the party, and nobody can deny him whatever position he would want if we went for a free and fair party primaries or even elections.
