Nakuru Boys High School Closed Indefinitely Following Violent Protests

The management of Nakuru Boys High School has shut down the institution following violent protests that erupted on Sunday, February 9.

The students destroyed school property within the institution over a string of grievances, mainly revolving around the food situation.

Reports indicate that demonstrations began around 8:50 pm and lasted for at least six hours, with police forced to intervene to restore calm.

The students destroyed a number of amenities including the administration block, classrooms, and dormitories.

They also broke into the dining hall and storage room stealing food with reports indicating that some students began eating the items they had taken.

It is alleged that part of the reason why the students unleashed chaos on their own institution was because of a meal that was taken off the roaster.

According to some of the students, they typically consumed tea and bread during the mid-morning but the administration decided to do away with it.

The students also lamented the introduction of a card system to pay for items bought at the school canteen, whilst they preferred paying in cash.

The students moreover accused the administration of failing to take into account their welfare after they allegedly scrapped milk from the morning tea.

Calm was restored hours later after the intervention of police and Nakuru County Director of Education Victoria Mulili.
