Samuel Eto’o Emotionally Bumps Into a Former Teammate Working as a Security Guard

Samuel Eto’o bumped into his old teammate and publicly identified with him by telling people that the security guy was his teammate.

The former Cameroon International and current President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, embraced his former teammate as they passionately shook hands. Eto’o seemed to be in a hurry but spared minutes for this encounter. “He was my colleague. I played with him.” Samuel Eto’o expressed joy as he shook hands with his former football teammate, a security guard at Ecobank. He turned to Mrs Abunaw Gwendoline, the security guard’s boss, to tell her they played together.

Eto’o, widely regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of all time, was attending an Ecobank Group seminar when fate brought him face-to-face with an old friend and reportedly his former teammate. For a moment, he did not dismiss, no matter how busy his schedule was. His expression showed it meant so much to him. Eto’o was visibly moved, repeatedly patting his friend’s arm as they reminisced.

Although the teammate’s name is yet to be uncovered, the moment, which was captured in the footage, showed the two had a close connection according to how they exchanged pleasantries. The reunion was especially significant, as Eto’o reportedly told his assistant to arrange a formal meeting with the security guard, expressing his joy at reconnecting.

They exchanged pleasantries in Bassa’a, a Cameroonian dialect and here is a translation of what the former Barcelona star said:

”He said he was so happy to see him and that it had been a long time, even calling the guy his brother. He said they had been teammates. But unfortunately, he couldn’t talk long; he had a meeting at his office in 10 minutes. He said the guy should reach Christian as soon as possible so he could reach him; they had many things to discuss. He insisted the guy actively look for Christian (Christian is Eto’o’s assistant, and the guy knows Christian).”
