PS Bitok: “Passports to be issued within 7 days”

Immigration Department PS Julius Bitok has recently announced that Kenyans would be able to get passports within seven days.

Speaking this afternoon at immigration department in  Nyayo House the PS who was in the company of Cassypool confirmed to Kenyans that the passport process will be faster since there has been additional necessary equipment.

In Kenya, it typically takes at least 10 working days to receive a first passport after submitting the application form to an Immigration office.

Other types of applications usually take at least 5 working days.

However, the application process can take longer if the application is not filled out correctly or if more information is required.

Last year, in the month of  September, the government had also announced improvements in the application, processing, and issuance of Kenyan passports and national identity cards.

According to PS Bitok, by then, the enhancements aimed to streamline service delivery, reduce delays, and ensure greater efficiency in meeting the needs of citizens both locally and abroad.

He further noted that production capacity has increased to 10,000 passports daily due to new printers and expanded application counters.

“First, we acquired two new printers, increasing our production capacity to about 10,000 passports daily. Additionally, we expanded the application counters at Nyayo House from 14 to 40, effectively decongesting the facility and enhancing efficiency.”
