Popular social media platform TikTok has announced that it will cease it might cease its operation in the United States.
TikTok had challenged a rule that was passed last year ordering the company to split from its Chinese owner or be blocked from the US by January 19th.
The US government argued that TikTok could be used by China as a tool for spying and political manipulation.

TikTok on the other hand declined the claims arguing that it had been fairly targeted and stated that the measure violated the free speech of some 170 million American users.
The lower courts sided with the government, but President-elect Donald Trump intervened and weighed on the dispute who therefore asked for the enforcement of the law to be paused to grant him time to come up with a deal.
The law against TikTok had been passed last year by the Congress with the support from both the democratic and republican parties.
TikTok has already been banned in other countries such as India. It will also face a possible ban by the government of US.
With the face of the possible ban, a decision by the Supreme court could be made anytime within the coming days.
